Digital in the Ice Channel

Customer: Bob- und Schlittenverband für Deutschland e.V.

CiMo Partner: Salzburg Research Forschungsgesellschaft mbH

Challenge

The German Bobsleigh, Luge and Skeleton Association and other professional winter sports associations are increasingly relying on digital innovations. By integrating sensors into sports equipment, they can collect real-time data on control, balance and speed. This enables personalized training plans and optimized equipment, improving athlete performance and taking the sport into a new era of precision and efficiency.

The association recognizes the importance of IoT and sensor technology for the future of sport. The development of a dashboard for training and performance analysis aims to provide valuable insights to further optimize athlete performance.

Methods

With the support of the EDIH-CIMO services offered by Salzburg Research, a feasibility and performance test for sensor technologies will be carried out. First, the most suitable sensor technology for measuring outdoor racing vehicles directly on the ice is determined using various tests. Secondly, the most efficient measurement position on the bob is tested to provide high-quality real-time data for professional analysis and control.

Result, Impact

According to the association and experts, insights into these techniques and steering impulses offer valuable insights for the future of the sport. The association’s vision is to connect various data sources (e.g. steering impulses, location of athletes in the channel) and provide a kind of dashboard for training matters.
