Challenge

ArtRock, a company based in Tyrol, Austria that offers innovative solutions for climbing walls, was looking for ways to expand and improve its offerings through digital technologies to better meet the needs of climbers.

The challenge was to design the “climbing hall of the future” in which both professional climbers and sporty families can feel equally at home. This meant creating an environment that offers unique experiences and makes climbing an interactive and fun experience. Specifically, the focus was on how digital technologies could be used to improve the climbing experience, for example by creating interactive climbing walls with feedback mechanisms and playful elements.

Methods

With the support of a European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH-CIMO), digital climbing holds were developed that are able to recognize climbers and give them instructions. These smart holds make it possible to personalize the climbing experience and offer different routes and challenges tailored to the climber’s abilities and preferences. By integrating IoT technologies, these digital climbing holds could also be networked with each other to create an even more interactive and dynamic climbing experience.

Result, Impact

The result of this innovation process met all requirements in terms of function, cost and patentability and enabled ArtRock to differentiate its offering and stand out from competitors.

By developing a marketable product and testing it in a real-world environment, the company was able to gain valuable insights and ensure that the solution met the needs of the climbing community. This innovation allows ArtRock to increase its market presence and reach new target groups by offering a unique and attractive climbing experience.

Furthermore, this case shows how cooperation with a European Digital Innovation Hub can help companies develop innovative solutions and successfully bring them to market.
